How to Install a Delta Sink Baffle

A Delta garbage disposal will come with a rubber sink baffle that blocks debris from spraying back up into your sink when you run the garbage disposal. Over time, the baffle may corrode or it may rip and require you to replace it. Depending on the model, the baffle replacement may require you to remove the garbage disposal or you may just be able to pull the baffle up from the sink’s drain opening. You can remove the garbage disposal, replace the baffle and reinstall the garbage disposal in under 30 minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the water supply for your kitchen sink. The knob should be under the sink.

    • 2

Flip the electrical breaker for the garbage disposal to the “Off” position at your electrical breaker box, and then unplug the garbage disposal from the wall.

    • 3

Slide a bowl underneath your garbage disposal to catch any water or debris that may fall once you remove the disposal.

    • 4

Insert the disposal wrench into the tabs on the top of the disposals mounting collar, and then turn the wrench counterclockwise to unlock the disposal. The tabs have a loop into which you will insert the disposal wrench. Hold onto the bottom of the disposal when you do this to ensure that it does not fall down, and then slowly remove it and set it in the bowl. You do not need to disconnect the piping from the disposal since you are just exchanging the baffle.

    • 5

Unscrew the mounting screws under the sink by using a flat-head screwdriver.

    • 6

Pry the snap ring off from the mounting devices, and then pull the mounting devices down from the sink. Note the order of the devices and leave them connected if possible. The snap ring is just a ring that holds the mounting devices in place when you remove the screws.

    • 7

Move up to the top side of the sink and pull the sink flange out along with the baffle. Once the flange and baffle are out, clean the hole in the sink to remove putty or debris.

    • 8

Connect the new baffle to the sink flange by pulling it over the rim of the flange.

    • 9

Trace the rim of the baffle and flange with putty, and then insert the baffle and flange back into the hole in the sink. Lay a towel over the flange and put a heavy object on top of it to hold it down into place.

    • 10

Move back underneath the sink and reattach the mounting devices in the same order that you removed them.

    • 11

Hang the disposal back into place and lock the mounting ring by turning the wrench clockwise.

    • 12

Plug the disposal back in, turn the water back on and return the power to the disposal at your electrical box.
