How to Use Your Sewer Line Pressure for Your Sump Pump

Sump pumps are generally placed in the basements of homes and are used to collect excess water from the ground in the basement. Generally, these sump pumps discharge water through a pressure system into the nearest sewer line. If your sump pump is connected to a sewer and you need to activate the pump's pressure system, you can do so by adjusting either the floating switch or pressure switch on the device (depending on your sump pump model, the switch on your device will vary).

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect your sump pump's power cord to prevent injury while modifying the sump pump's switches.

    • 2

Adjust the floating switch on your sump pump, which looks like a ball at the end of a short wire attached to the pump. If you cannot locate the floating switch, look instead for a pressure switch.

    • 3

Adjust the pressure switch, located on the bottom section of the pump body.

    • 4

Plug the sump pump back in and examine the pump to make sure it is receiving water from the sewage line.
