How to Disassemble a Wall Mount From a Toilet Tank

Toilets can be set up in different ways. One of these designs uses a wall-mounted toilet tank. Wall mounts connect the tank to the wall, rather than the floor. Like any plumbing fixture, toilet tanks can become damaged or break due to wear and tear. If this happens, you will need to remove the tank to diagnose and remedy the problem. With this in mind, it's important to understand how to properly disassemble the wall mount and remove the toilet tank, lest you cause more harm than good.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the water. There will be a silver, circular or oval-shaped valve behind your toilet. Turn it clockwise until you can't move it anymore. The water is now shut off.

    • 2

Scoop out the tank's water with your bucket, dumping it into the sink until the tank is empty.

    • 3

Remove the slip joint. Use your screwdriver to undo the slip joint located beneath the tank. If the screw has a "+" sign hole on the top, use your Phillips screwdriver. For a screw with a "-" sign, use the flat-head.

    • 4

      Close the toilet bowl's lid.

    • 5

Straddle on top of the bowl while facing the tank.

    • 6

Place your knees under the tank to support its weight.

    • 7

Remove the wall mount. Use the appropriate screwdriver to remove the wood screws on the wall mount.

    • 8

Lift up the tank and pull it away from the wall. You have now disassembled the wall mount and removed it from the toilet tank.
