How to Install a Plastic Faucet for a Washing Machine

Plastic faucets at the end of a pipe run allow for attaching appliances such as washing machines. Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the water supply for the pipe where you wish to install the plastic faucet. Turn off the water supply at the main valve if you can't find a branch line valve. The main valve is usually located on the front or side of your residence.

Attach the plastic faucet to the top of the PVC fitting. Apply primer to the outside of the end of the PVC pipe. Allow this to dry. Apply pipe cement. Press the plastic faucet on top of the pipe and hold in place for the recommended amount of time.

Install an adapter coupling if connecting a plastic faucet to a metal pipe. There are a number of different types of adapters available for making these connections. Wrap the threads on the coupling with Teflon tape. Screw the faucet onto the adapter.

    • 4

Turn the valve for the plastic faucet all the way to the right to ensure that it is closed.

    • 5

Restore the water supply to the pipe by turning on the water supply valve.

Check the plastic faucet for leaks. Tighten, if needed with a wrench.
