How to Install a Sink Sprayer Diverter Connection

A sink sprayer is attached to the main water lines leading to the sink faucet. The faucet is installed with a diverter inside, which allows the sprayer, when connected properly, to stop the flow of water to the faucet and spray out the sprayer head instead. To hook up a diverter connection, you need a sink that has a hole to accommodate the sprayer head as well as a faucet that has a spray diverter already installed. The connection is easy to make from there.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the water supply to the sink faucet at the saddle valves. Turn the valves clockwise to close them. Turn on the faucet to remove any water from the lines.

    • 2

Look under the sink at the base of the faucet. There will be a diverter hose connection if your faucet is capable of accepting a sprayer connection.

    • 3

Lay out the sprayer head parts according to the instructions included with the kit. Assemble the head and screw the locking nut onto the sprayer head.

    • 4

Apply a layer of teflon tape to the thread of the diverter connection at the base of the faucet. Screw the locking nut of the diverter hose connection to the diverter connection at the base of the faucet. Hand tighten and then turn a few more times with a basin wrench.
