Clean the area around the toilet flange for the Toto installation. Using a plastic putty knife avoids damaging the floor when scraping up construction debris. Remove old traces of wax from the flange with a rag dabbed in isopropyl alcohol.
Move the skirted toilet into position over the flange. Check that the water-supply valve isn't in the skirt’s way. If so, have the supply valve moved by a professional plumber.
Insert the flange bolts, threads pointing upward, into the flange parallel with the wall behind the toilet.
Press a wax ring into the flange opening’s center. Purchase the wax ring from a hardware or plumber's supply center.
Install the modular rough-in if your Toto toilet is so equipped. The rough-in allows certain skirted toilet models to connect to the waste pipe from the rear. Secure the rough-in by tightening the bolts with a wrench.
Lift up the bowl and align it over the flange on models without a rough-in. Lower the Toto toilet bowl over the flange until the bolts emerge from the holes on either side of the base.
Secure the Toto toilet to the modular rough-in or the flange by tightening the flange bolts in place. Press any caps into position covering the bolts.
Lower the tank onto the toilet’s back on two piece toilets. Secure it to the bowl with bolts.
Wrap the water supply inlet with plumber's tape. Connect the water supply hose.
Turn on the water supply at the valve. Flush the Toto skirted toilet and check that it works correctly. Tighten any bolts or the inlet coupling if needed.
