Instructions for Red Lion Submersible Pumps

Red Lion submersible pumps are used for removing water in basements, swimming pools or other areas where water has settled. The portable pumps remove the water by using suction to take the water from the area and expelling it out of a drain hose. Before you start using the Red Lion pump, you will need to learn how to use the pump so you don’t damage it.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a level spot on the floor to sit the submersible pump near a ground fault interrupter protected outlet. A GFI protected outlet is one that will shut off current to the pump if a short occurs while the pump is running. A short circuit could allow stray electrical current from the pump to electrify the water or a person touching the pump.

Attach the shortest possible garden hose to the discharge outlet. The outlet fitting will fit a garden hose connector. After attaching the garden hose, run the hose to the area where you will dispose of the water. This may be a drain or out a window to a grassy area.

    • 3

Place the Red Lion submersible pump on the flat surface so it sits on the round, flat bottom. Run the cord to the protected outlet. Plug in the pump. Always plug the pump in after it is sitting in the water -- never plug the pump in and then place it in the water. If the pump is placed in the water while it is plugged in, it will trap air in the pump, preventing it from working.

Turn on the pump using the switch on the top of the pump. Allow the pump to run and remove the water. When the water is gone, turn off the pump.
