How to Control the Ground Pressure of a Water Storage Tank

Water storage tanks are one method that delivers water to your home when a municipal water source isn't available. The water tank’s height creates pressure on the supply line, which carries water inside the house. A water pressure regulator valve is usually installed along this main water line. The regulator controls how much pressure enters the plumbing system. Turning the screw on gauge’s top changes the pressure.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the water pressure gauge on the supply line. The gauge may be located near the water storage tank, or it may be inside the house near where the water line enters.

    • 2

Loosen the large nut on the top of the water pressure regulator by turning it counterclockwise several times with pliers. Do not remove the nut, just loosen it several turns.

    • 3

Turning the screw above the nut clockwise increases the water pressure released into the plumbing system. Turning the screw counterclockwise decreases the pressure. A small gauge near the screw indicates the pounds per square inch of pressure being released.
