How to Make a Sink Splash Guard Drain Better

A splash guard on your sink ensures the faucet water stays contained, without getting the adjacent counters and such soaked. A splash guard can also prevent the garbage disposal from kicking up pieces of chopped food as it grinds them down the drain. If your splash-guarded drain does not appear to be draining optimally, there may be a clog restricting the water flow.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour a half cup of baking soda down the drain.

    • 2

Pour a half cup of vinegar down the drain and cover the drain with a stopper or rag.

    • 3

Boil a pot of water while the solution goes to work on the source of the clog. Wait at least 15 to 30 minutes.

    • 4

Pour the pot of boiling water down the drain. The boiling water will flush the solution through the drain pipes.

    • 5

Test the water flow. If the water appears to still be draining slower than normal, repeat the process. It may require repeating the process a few times to restore normal water flow.
