Instructions

    • 1

Clean the end of the PVC pipe with soap and water. Use a clean cloth to wash it, and thoroughly dry it with another cloth. Clean the threads of the valve and the adapter in the same manner.

    • 2

Apply plumbing primer to the end of the PVC pipe, using a brushes. The primer softens the pipe and readies it for bonding.

    • 3

Apply solvent cement to the end of the pipe adapter, using a different brush to avoid contaminating the cement with primer. The cement will bond the pipe to the adapter, giving the pipe a male threaded ending. Allow the cement to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions. The adapter must be sized so that its inner diameter is equal to the outer diameter of the PVC pipe. Its outer diameter must equal the inner diameter of the valve. Its threads must be cut to match the threads in the valve.

Apply the pipe joint compound to the outside of the valve threads. Use a new brush to avoid contamination. Thread the valve onto the adapter. Allow the pipe joint compound to dry according to the instructions. Once it is dry it will seal the joint against leaks.
