How to Install a Valve on a Wall for a Washer

Washing machines use water from a valve in the wall. While most homes have the valve already installed, your home may need the valve attached to the pipe in your laundry room to provide the washer with the water it needs. Luckily, the washing machine valve is an easy piece of plumbing to install since it simply screws onto the pipe in your laundry room.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the cap from the pipe or pipes that are used for your washing machine with the wrench. The cap or caps should twist off.

    • 2

Slide the nut over the pipes and slip the cold valve on the pipe with the blue handle and the hot valve on the pipe with the red handle.

    • 3

Wrap a layer of pipe tape over the threads where the pipes and valves meet. This keeps any water from leaking out of the valves. Tighten the nuts over the tape with the wrench.

    • 4

Twist the washing machine hoses to the end of each valve. Turn on the red and blue handles and turn the switch on each valve from “Off” to “On” for the water to flow into your machine.
