How to Troubleshoot Jayco Plumbing

The plumbing systems in Jayco’s lineup of recreational vehicles differ in detail but generally include a freshwater tank, pipes, one or more pumps for moving water through the system, kitchen and bath taps, and holding tanks for wastewater. The most damaging plumbing problem in Jayco and other RVs is water leakage. If you see signs of a leakage problem, you should search for and correct the cause of water leakage to avoid incurring expensive damage to your unit.

Instructions

    • 1

Check your Jayco RV for signs of plumbing leaks. Signs of leaks include frequent cycling of your water pump when no water is running, unexplained wet spots on cabinets and floors, unexplained drops in your freshwater tank levels, clear water dripping from underneath your RV at a location other than where your RV air conditioner is located, soft and spongy floors or a pervasive smell of mold and mildew in under-sink cabinets. Inspect your plumbing for leaks if you experience any of these trouble signs.

    • 2

Inspect visually all accessible plumbing inside and underneath your Jayco RV with a flashlight if you have signs of a leaky plumbing problem. Look for drips and damp spots. Check in, around and under sinks, showers, tubs and toilets. Open cabinet doors and access hatches to inspect plumbing. Check plumbing connections for tightness. Run water in the kitchen and bathroom while examining faucets, supply lines and drains for leaks.

    • 3

Check for cracked or broken pipes, fittings and pumps, particularly if your Jayco RV has only recently been taken out of winter storage. Improper winterization can damage RV plumbing. Check water levels in your water and waste tanks. Overfilled tanks can leak and spill water. Check pipes for clogs that could cause water to back up and spill.

    • 4

Tighten or replace pipe connections if those are the source of leakage. Repair or replace cracked or broken supply pipes or drain pipes if they are leaking. Replace a leaking water pump. Repair or replace leaking faucets. Reduce water levels in tanks if an overfilled tank is spilling over. Clear out pipe clogs that are causing water backups.
