How to: Plumbing for a Shower With Multiple Jets

Preparation

  Read the installation manual for your shower tower. This manual contains all the information you need to know on installing the unit and hooking it up to your existing water supply pipes.

  Shut off the water supply to your bathroom.

  Turn on the shower to let out any water left in the pipes.

  Remove your existing shower head. Remove any screws holding the unit in place with your drill and loosen it with your pliers. Unscrew the shower head from the pipe.

  Remove your existing shower controls in the same manner. Place all removed items away from the shower area to maintain a clean work space.

  Use your pliers to remove the old shower adapter valve from the pipes that supply water to the shower. The valve should screw off.

  Install a new valve or compression fitting, using your pliers to screw it securely onto the main supply pipe. Use a valve supplied by the manufacturer of your shower tower or one recommended for use in the installation manual.

  Add teflon paste to the hot and cold water line threads and install new female adapters by screwing them onto the threads. Ignore this step if your installation manual does not require it.

Installation

  Mount your shower tower on the bathroom wall, following the manufacturer's instructions. When drilling holes in your shower walls to install mounting devices, place painter's tape over the area you intend on drilling to protect the tile.

  Locate the hoses or pipes on the bottom or back of your shower tower that attach to your water supply pipes. Use your installation manual to determine which to use with cold water and which with hot.

  Attach these hoses or pipes to the hot and cold water supply pipes by screwing them on over the female adapters you installed in Section 1, Step 8, or directly onto the pipe if installation requires no adapters.

  Finish any installation procedures necessary for the shower tower, such as adding a covering plate over the juncture of the connection hoses and shower controls on the tower.

  Turn the water supply to your bathroom back on.

  Test the new shower tower by turning it on. Ensure all the jets work properly and that there are no leaks.
