How to Connect Galvanized Pipe to Brass

Galvanized pipe and brass pipe are both used for water piping systems. Sometimes you have to join the two together while doing a repair. For example, you may need to connect a brass barb to your galvanized pipe system, since galvanized barb fittings can be difficult to find. However, if you have a few common plumbing tools at the ready, you can quickly and easily join the galvanized pipe to brass.

Things You'll Need

  • Pipe wrenches
  • Plumber's tape

Instructions

    • 1

Apply plumber's tape to the male threads of the brass fitting. Wrap the tape clockwise around the threads two or three times.

    • 2

Align the male threads of the brass fitting with the female threads of the galvanized fitting. Turn the brass fitting clockwise to begin threading it into the galvanized fitting. Keep turning until the connection is hand-tight.

    • 3

Place a pipe wrench on the brass fitting. Place another pipe wrench on the galvanized fitting. Turn the brass fitting clockwise with the wrench until the threads are almost completely buried in the galvanized fitting.
