Use a gel or paste stripper on vertical and horizontal surfaces. Liquid stripper will run but is easier to get into cracks and corners.
Peel paint right off of the wood with a paste stripper. The downside is that it has to be kept moist and takes a few hours to work.
Pay a little more for the convenience of gel strippers, which cling to surfaces at any angle.
Try a hot-air gun if you don't mind the heat - and stay alert for scorching.
