How to Use a Wagner Power Sprayer for Trim & Soffit Painting

Paint sprayers can really speed up the painting process. Unfortunately, they can also create serious messes in the hands of an inexperienced do-it-yourselfer. Fortunately, you don't have to be a painting professional to use an electric or gas-powered sprayer to paint your home. However, before you use a Wagner Power Sprayer for trim and soffit painting, you need to know the proper procedure, or you may end up making a significant irreversible mess in the process.

Instructions

    • 1

Wait for a warm, dry day free of wind.

    • 2

Clean dust and dirt from the trim and soffit using a pressure washer. Allow the surface to dry completely before continuing.

    • 3

Access the trim and soffit using an extension ladder. Work with a partner unless you are experienced working with these types of ladders.

    • 4

Apply blue painter's tape to any areas you do not want painted. Cover brick areas adjacent to the soffit and trim with masking paper. Use the blue painter's tape to hold the paper in place.

    • 5

Fill the Wagner Power Sprayer with paint as instructed by the directions that came with the unit.

    • 6

Turn the power on and carefully scale the ladder. Spray a 4-foot-wide portion of the soffit first. Spray from left to right. Do not overapply or you will end up with runs and drips.

    • 7

Hold the spray gun sideways as you spray the narrower trim.

    • 8

Descend the ladder and move on to the next portion of trim and soffit. Work from left to right.
