Counteract the gray door with a vibrant trim. Too much gray will make the house appear drab, so paint the exterior walls with a neutral color such as cream, white or very light gray and add a trim color in a bold shade such as deep red, forest green or deep navy blue.
Paint accent features of the home a similar shade gray to create a cohesive color palette on the home. Paint the walls a creamy yellow and add a white trim to fascia boards to lighten up the overall look of the house. Add contrast by painting the front door and shutters a gray to match the garage door.
Compare gray paint swatches at the paint store with other colors. Bold colors that pair well with gray include eggplant, seafoam green, coral, battleship blue, olive green, taupe and lighter colors such as cream, beige and white.
Pair the gray garage door with exterior colors that have a hint of gray in them, such as grayish-blue. To offset the darker colors, paint the exterior walls with the blue, and use pure white for the trim and window casings.
Use a dark gray color or black paint to act as a trim for your exterior walls. Choose a light shade of paint for the exterior walls, and add the dark trim as an accent. Using a dark version of your lighter wall paint will register almost like black, which will pair nicely with the garage.
