Insert the flat end of a pry bar into the top of the baseboard. Pull the handle of the pry bar back to pull the baseboard away from the wall. Continue using this method until all of the baseboards are detached from the walls.
Locate the finishing nails that are still located in the baseboards and pull them out using a pair of pliers. If you cannot grasp the top of the nail, tap the bottom of the nail gently with a hammer until you can grasp it with the pliers.
Spread a plastic drop cloth in an outdoor location, or in a well ventilated indoor location such as a garage. Place the baseboards face up on top of the drop cloth.
Dip a paint brush into the paint stripper and apply a thick layer of the stripper over all painted surfaces of the baseboards.
Allow the paint stripper to sit for the amount of time recommended on the can, which is usually between 15 and 30 minutes.
Place a putty knife at one end of the base board and push it forward to scrape off the dissolved paint. The paint will look like a thick paste as it is removed. Continue scraping until all of the paint is removed from the baseboard.
Pour enough denatured alcohol onto a clean cloth to saturate it. Wipe down all surfaces of the baseboards with the denatured alcohol to remove the chemicals from the paint stripper and stop them from acting on the wood.
