Call your propane provider to find the colors recommended to paint your tank with. This is an important step before beginning any creative propane tank painting.
Prepare the propane tank before painting. Wash it down with a soapy dish water solution with rags and/or sponges to remove dirt and grime. Rinse thoroughly with a hose or other fresh water source. Once dry, draw a specific design of your choosing onto the propane tank, or just go freehand.
Paint the propane tank within the boundaries of the colors recommended, but only adhere to the creative boundaries of your thoughts. Have a propane tank painting party and let others help, especially kids. Ideas may include a giant yellow submarine, a light green watermelon or turn the tank into a pink pig. Stripes, spots, even the panels of a flag are ideas that can be incorporated into any propane tank painting project.
Use the tank as an advertising venue and paint the name, address and phone number of a business on the side. Paint tanks to blend into their surroundings using green colors in an area with dense vegetation, a multitude of colors if they are sitting next to a flower garden or tan colors in a setting with a sandy background.
