How to Assemble a Mansfield Two Piece Toilet

Two piece toilets have a tank that holds water and is mounted on the back of the toilet. When the toilet handle is depressed, the water inside the first piece, the tank, rushes out into the second toilet piece, the bowl, and carries away the waste. The Mansfield company manufactures a number of different two piece toilet models. The setup on these fixtures is fairly simple, so it's possible for the DIYer to assemble a Mansfield two piece toilet without too much trouble.

Instructions

    • 1

Slip the toilet flange bolts into the floor flange with the threads pointing upward. Press the wax ring into the center of the flange.

    • 2

Pick up the base of the Mansfield toilet and hold it over the toilet flange. Align the holes at the base of the toilet with the upturned flange bolts. Lower the toilet base over the flange so that the flange bolts come up through the base of the toilet. Press the toilet bowl firmly into the floor.

    • 3

Insert the metal and plastic washers over the flange bolts and hand-tighten them. Tighten the bolts an additional few turns with a wrench, alternating tightening on each side as you go.

    • 4

Lift up the tank for the Mansfield toilet and place it on the back of the bowl. Line up the gasket at the base of the tank with the hole on the back of the toilet bowl before setting the tank into place.

    • 5

Insert the Mansfield tank bolts through the bottom of the tank so that the threads poke out beneath. Insert the tank bolt washers over the ends of the bolts and hand-tighten the nuts. Tighten the nuts an additional few turns with the wrench.

    • 6

Cut off two pieces of plumber's tape approximately 3 inches in length. Wrap one of the pieces of tape around the water supply outlet on the wall. Wrap the other piece of tape around the inlet on the bottom of the Mansfield toilet tank.

    • 7

Connect one end of a water supply hose to the supply valve on the wall and tighten it with the wrench. Connect the other end of the hose to the inlet on the bottom of the Mansfield tank and tighten it with a pair of pliers.

    • 8

Turn on the water supply valve at the wall and wait for the Mansfield tank to fill up until the fill valve cuts off the water.

    • 9

Flush the Mansfield toilet and check around the base of the toilet and tank for leaks. Tighten any bolts if necessary.
