Graco Magnum Texture Spray Gun Tips

Currently, homeowners are not limited in their paint choices for both walls and ceilings when redesigning a room's decor. In fact, paint texturing has become a painting method for producing depth along a surface. Graco, a paint sprayer manufacturer, offers a texture spray gun called the Magnum. This spray gun has multiple nozzle tips for creating different textural styles.
  1. Features

    • Graco's Magnum texture spray gun is a combination of a hopper container, holding the textured paint or mud, a handheld nozzle and an attached tube. An external air compressor provides the power for moving the paint from the hopper, through the tube and out of the nozzle tip. The nozzle's tip is removable for versatile sprayer techniques.

    Orange Peel Tips

    • Orange peel is a paint texture that resembles the skin of an orange. The paint is effectively splattered across a surface, creating the textured look. Graco offers two spray gun tips for this texture style. A 4-millimeter (mm) opening on one specific orange peel tip offers a very fine splatter, resulting in small splash spots across a surface. In contrast, Graco also has a tip with a 6-mm opening. This opening size allows for larger splatter spots than the 4-mm tip.

    Knockdown Tips

    • Knockdown texture is similar to orange peel. Instead of splatter spots, knockdown is a splattering of paint islands across a surface. Graco provides two tips for this texture as well. The knockdown island texture requires larger tip openings for creating the appearance. Tip openings measuring 8 mm produces a small to medium knockdown texture. Alternatively, a larger tip opening, measuring 12 mm, creates a large knockdown texture, often referred to as popcorn or acoustical texture.

    Considerations

    • Make sure the removable spray gun tips are securely attached to the nozzle. The external air compressor applies a lot of force to the paint product for a forceful emission through the tubing and onto the surface. A loose tip can accidentally detach under pressure, possibly causing injury and damaging the newly textured surface.
