How to Do a Bathtub Makeover

Giving a bathtub a facelift is challenging work. It involves using harsh chemicals to prepare it and working while bent over the tub. However, once painted with epoxy, the tub will look like new and have a coat of paint that will last for years. This also costs only a fraction of the price of a new bathtub. Choose paint colors that go with your bathroom's decor. You can paint in any color epoxy paint and can even add patterns or images to the tub so it really stands out.

Instructions

    • 1

Scrub the tub using lacquer thinner and course steel wool. Dip the wool in the lacquer thinner and rub the tub's surface in 1-foot-square sections. Wipe away the thinner with a clean cloth and move to the next section.

    • 2

Wash the tub and dry it thoroughly. Use a vacuum to suck up any remaining particles.

    • 3

Protect the surrounding surfaces with painter's tape and plastic.

    • 4

Spray an appliance epoxy paint onto the tub surface until it is heavily coated. Clean up any messes with lacquer thinner. Remove the plastic and painter's tape.

    • 5

Let the paint cure for five days before using the tub.
