How to Mix Flat Paint With Glaze

Flat paint is useful in creating a calm, soothing feel in a room since it reflects little light. When mixed with a glazing liquid, it adds texture, depth and an antique look to paint. Flat paint is also ideal for rooms that do not receive a lot of wear and tear on the walls, such as a master bedroom, dining room or living room. Adding glaze gives the flat paint a translucent appearance that many homeowners find appealing.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a drop cloth in the area you want to paint, and set a mixing bowl on the drop cloth.

    • 2

Add glaze to the flat paint by first considering what effect you want in the area. If you want a dark shade on the wall that is close to the paint color, add 3 parts paint to 1 part glaze in the mixing bowl. For a medium tone, use equal parts of the glaze and flat paint. To create a light shade with more of a translucent look, mix 3 parts glaze to only 1 part paint.

Mix the flat paint and the glaze together well by stirring it with a paint stick until it blends completely.
