How to Blend Edger Marks When Painting

Painting a wall using an incorrect technique can leave edge marks from the roller. As the paint dries, the marks will become more visible and may even leave raised ridges. The wall will eventually look striped and messy. You can prevent this during the painting process by using the correct technique. Overlapping strokes that maintain a wet edge are the easiest way to blend edge marks during the painting process.

Instructions

    • 1

Dip the paint roller into the paint tray. Roll it back and forth to evenly distribute the paint into the nap of the roller.

    • 2

Paint over the edge marks of your last strokes, making a loose "w" or "m" with the roller. Fill in the shape with the paint roller, refilling the roller when it gets dry.

    • 3

Move over slightly and repeat the process, making the next "w" or "m" overlap the first one. Fill in that shape.
