Ideas for Painting on Pinstripe

Pinstripes are a style of painting applied to a surface vertically, horizontally, or as an accenting feature for a mural or design. Painting on pinstripes may seem extremely difficult, however there are multiple ways to achieve this attractive appearance with a little patience and practice.
  1. Tape Guided Pinstripes

    • Outline pinstripes on a surface using painter's tape. Apply tape on both sides of the outlined area and paint on pinstripe. Allow paint to dry for 2-hours, and remove tape from the surface. This manner of painting on the pinstripes allows you to cover a larger area at one time.

Freehand Pinstripes- It's All in The Detail

    • Use a detail brush to carefully paint pinstripes on a surface. Cover the tip lightly with paint, and hold the brush steady as you apply the lines to the surface. Applying pinstripes with a detail brush is a process that requires a lot of patience and time to complete as it requires a steady hand to create perfect pinstripes.

    Laser Guided Pinstripes

    • Set up a laser leveler on the surface. Allow the line to shine in the direction you want to apply the pinstripes. Paint the pinstripes on the surface with a detail brush as guided by the laser. Move the laser leveler along the surface to create multiple pinstripes. The laser leveler has the ability to level it self to any angle you like, so the lines will always be parallel when applied.

    Paint Around Objects

    • Paint a thin pinstripe around objects painted on a surface. Use a small detail brush to achieve a consistent outline for the object. Place your pinky on a dry surface of the wall and extend the tip of the brush to the surface to paint. Glide the tip of the brush around an object to create an accent around the images.
