Scrub the wrought iron with a wire brush. This removes embedded dirt as well as rough spots and rust.
Clean the wrought iron completely using hot soapy water. Wash off the dirt and dust that the wire brush has created. Allow the iron to dry thoroughly.
Lay newspaper on the ground where you will be painting. One or two layers should be enough. Place the furniture on top of the newspaper.
Hold the primer spray paint can about 6 inches away from the wrought iron. Move it back and forth, coating the iron completely with the paint. Be sure to get in all the crevices and creases in the iron. The primer gives the furniture a smooth look and covers up any old paint or color.
Allow the primer to dry completely. It will take roughly two hours; check your can of spray paint for the exact time.
Spray the wrought iron furniture with your paint color. Again, be sure to cover all the cracks and crevices in the iron.
Allow the paint to dry completely before using. Check your paint can for exact drying times.
