How to Remove Latex Paint From an Oil-Based Paint on a Porch Floor

Applying a fresh coat of paint can update a room or helps keep exterior parts of your home looking fresh and new. It isn't uncommon to have a splatter or spill occur while mixing, transporting or actually painting with any paint. Cleaning up unwanted latex paint that found its way to your porch that has an oil-based paint is accomplished more easily than removing latex from latex or oil from oil. The two different paints use different solvents for removal.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe up as much of the latex paint as you can immediately with a clean rag. Add some water to the paint if it is still fresh but not readily coming up with only a rag.

    • 2

Saturate any old latex paint stains with rubbing alcohol. If you are concerned about the wood's finish, pour some rubbing alcohol onto a rag and set it on the stain.

    • 3

Cover the rubbing alcohol with plastic wrap to prevent the alcohol from evaporating. Allow it to sit for 30 to 60 minutes so it can penetrate the paint.

    • 4

Remove the plastic, and wipe all the alcohol away with a wet rag. The latex paint should wipe away without much effort.
