How to Choose a Paint for High Traffic Wall Areas

Painting is often a long and tedious task -- if you do it right. With all that hard work preparing the surface, taping and then painting, you'll want it to last. One of the first steps in painting correctly is choosing the right paint. For high traffic areas where dirty fingerprints, spills and scuffing are more likely, choose a paint that is both easy to clean and stain resistant.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a high-quality interior or interior/exterior latex paint for high traffic areas. This type of paint is easier to maintain and clean, and it better resists stains.

    • 2

Avoid flat paint which is difficult to clean. Low sheen, satin, eggshell or glossy finishes are easy to clean with just a little bit of soap and water.

    • 3

Buy a high-quality latex primer as well. Priming a surface before painting also helps the top coat resist stains.
