Painting a Toilet's Scratches

Nicks and scratches on a toilet can mar the surface and make it appear unsightly. Save money and consider alternatives to purchasing a new toilet. By painting a toilet’s scratches, you can smooth the scratched surfaces and make the toilet look new again. Assess the task before you begin -- painting scratches on a toilet is only a suitable solution for scratches on areas that do not get wet regularly.

Things You'll Need

  • Chlorine bleach
  • Bucket
  • Fine detail brush
  • Glossy ceramic tile paint (color matching the toilet)

Instructions

    • 1

Mix equal parts of chlorine bleach and water in the bucket. Wash the scratched area of the toilet thoroughly where you plan to paint. Rinse the toilet surface well and allow it to dry.

    • 2

Load the tip of the fine detail brush with the glossy ceramic tile paint. Do not overload the brush -- use only a small amount of paint.

    • 3

Touch the brush onto the scratch to cover the area where the paint is missing. Work carefully, dabbing at the scratch with the tips of the bristles, to fill in the scratch with paint.

    • 4

Repeat the same process to paint each scratch.

    • 5

Allow the paint to dry completely before using the toilet again.
