Bumps and bubbles create one of the most common painting problems. These defects are caused by a number of factors -- from too-thick paint coats to debris in the paint layer. Whether in the ceiling or the walls, they draw attention. Luckily, paint bumps and bubbles are impermanent and can be removed. It will take a bit of sanding and repainting, but soon you'll be left with a professional paint finish.
Puncture any bubbles larger than 1 cm in diameter with the blade of a utility knife. Then peel away the bubbled paint.
Scrape the bubbles and bumps off the wall with a wide plastic putty knife. Hold the putty knife at a narrow angle and scrape using short, firm strokes until the bumps and bubbles are gone.
Sand the affected surface with an ultra-fine sanding block until it's completely flat and smooth.
Repaint the affected area with a paintbrush or paint roller. If you've had to sand down to the bare wall or a layer of paint of a different color, prime first. If the bumps and blisters cover a large area, repaint the entire wall.
