How to Remove Latex Paint From Wall Plaster

Latex paint is a commonly-used interior paint for drywall and plaster walls. While some homeowners would elect to simply paint over it to change the look of the room, you may want to remove the paint to get to the original wall surface for restoration. Plaster can be sensitive to solvents, so removing latex paint with the weakest solvent is the best option. Regular rubbing alcohol will do the job.

Things You'll Need

  • Clean rag
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Plastic tarp

Instructions

    • 1

Saturate a rag with rubbing alcohol. Wipe down the latex paint with the rubbing alcohol.

    • 2

Cover the plaster wall with a plastic tarp to prevent the alcohol from evaporating. Let the alcohol sit for 30 minutes.

    • 3

Rinse out the cloth. While it is still damp, wipe the loosened latex paint off the plaster wall. If it still will not come off, again wet the wall with alcohol and let it sit for another 30 minutes.

    • 4

Wipe the latex paint off the wall with a damp cloth. Let the plaster air dry.
