Acrylic House Paint Guide

Painting the exterior or interior of a house increasingly is being done with latex products. As in most endeavors, price is often a direct reflection of quality, so when purchasing an acrylic paint for use on or in your house, make sure you purchase one that is 100 percent acrylic latex. This paint will be expensive, but it will also be the best paint for the job. Here is a quick look at the various types of acrylic paints that are on the market.
  1. Interior Acrylic Latex Wall Paint

    • Interior latex wall paint is available in eggshell, flat, satin and semi-gloss finishes. A particular finish can be chosen in regard to the amount of light it reflects and its washability. Generally speaking, a shiny latex paint, such as semi-gloss or satin, is easy to clean, but also reflects a lot of light to create a shiny surface. With a flat wall paint just the opposite is true: less reflection usually results in a surface that cannot be washed as easily.

    Porch Acylic Latex Paint

    • Acrylic latex porch and deck paint is now commonly used in both indoor and exterior locations. Where in the past, oil-based paint was often used for these tasks, the acrylic latex paints are now being used because of their increased durability and environment-friendly nature. Oil-based paints because of the large amount of alkyd fumes that they release into the air are increasingly subject to air quality regulations.

    Outdoor Acrylic Latex Paint

    • Due to the much-improved quality of both acrylic latex primers and finish paints, they are now used commonly in all types of outdoor house painting. One place where a latex acrylic paint cannot be used is when an existing layer of alkyd or oil-based paint needs to be covered. Like the old latex house paint, the new varieties are not designed to cover already-existing oil paint.
