Instructions

    • 1

Use a coarse wire brush and a paint scraper to remove as much paint as possible. Scrubbing with water will help to loosen some of the paint, particularly if it is a water soluble latex.

    • 2

Apply a soy-based paint stripper to the paint stain. Soy-based strippers are the safest to use but may require more attempts than other chemical strippers that are more aggressive. Apply the paint stripper to the stain and allow it to soak for a while. Follow the safety precautions and directions from the manufacturer. Wear protective gloves and goggles.

    • 3

Use the wire brush, scraper and water to scrub the stain again. It may be necessary to reapply the paint stripper and scrub the stain several times.

    • 4

Rent a pressure washer from a home improvement store. Direct the water pressure at any of the stain remaining. Use a sweeping motion so as not to dig into the concrete. Do not use paint stripper during this process as you want to avoid polluting the ground water and soil in the area.

For the most stubborn stain, rent a sand blaster or shot blaster. Both of these pieces of equipment work in a similar way as a pressure washer but use fine sand or metal particles to strip away the paint. This process is most likely to result in removing some of the concrete as well, so it must be performed carefully.
