Drain the water from your swimming pool according to your specific pool instructions, and clean out all debris from the sides and bottom of the pool. Remove the pool plugs and drain coverings.
Scrape away any loose or chipping paint from the pool surface. Use a high pressure power washer and paint scraper.
Grind down any cracks in the swimming pool shell to ¼ inches deep with a grinder or a diamond blade saw. Fill and patch the crack with hydraulic cement and a trowel. Let it dry completely.
Acid wash the surfaces of the swimming pool with a solution of 50 percent water and a muriatic acid. Brush on the solution with a long-handled scrub brush. Rinse the surfaces completely with a garden hose.
Clean the swimming pool surface with TSP (trisodium-phosphate) to neutralize the acid and remove the glaze from the old paint. Use the long-handled brush again to scrub it on the sides and bottom of the pool. Rinse with water from the garden hose to completely remove any solution. Let the pool dry for three to five days
Check the weather to make sure you will have a day without rain and that the temperature stays above 40 and below 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
Clean any remaining debris from the dry pool. Tape the tile and fittings with masking tape to protect them from paint.
Mix the epoxy paint with an electric drill with a paddle mixer for five to seven minutes. Pour paint into a paint pan.
Roll the epoxy paint on the surface of your pool with a paint roller with extension pole. Cover the entire surface. Wait for four hours, and reapply a second coat of paint.
Let the paint dry for five days before filling your pool with water.
