How to Fix a Concrete Step

Concrete steps are common on many homes and buildings because they are relatively inexpensive and durable. In some cases, however, the corners of the steps can crumble due to weather exposure or improperly sealed concrete. If your stairs have crumbling corners, you can revive them and renew the appeal of your home by performing a basic repair. Properly set and apply the concrete patch on the steps for a professional-looking repair.

2 pieces of 1 x 6 wood
2 wood screws

Instructions

  Sweep away any crumbled concrete on the corner of the step using the wire brush. Be sure that there are no loose pieces of concrete on the step.

  Screw together the pieces of wood at a right angle to create a corner frame.

  Apply cooking oil to the inside corners of the wooden frame to prevent your cement from sticking when applied.

  Attach the wooden frame to the crumbling corner using duct tape so that the wood piece frames and outlines the area for the repair.

  Brush the concrete bonding liquid onto the broken edges of the concrete stair with a medium-sized paintbrush.

  Mix the cement and water together in a bucket in the ratio outlined on the cement's packaging until you achieve a uniform consistency.

  Scoop the wet cement into the frame and pack it down using the trowel.

  Smooth over the top of the cement using the flat side of the trowel. After the cement has completely cured, you can remove the frame. Gently brush the edges of the concrete with the wire brush to smooth them out and soften the edges..
