How to Paint the Exterior of a Mobile Home While Renovating a Trailer

Lay a piece of painter's plastic on the ground around the entire perimeter of the home's exterior. Close all windows, vents and doors.

Connect the pressure washer hose and gun to the pressure washer. Attach a garden hose to the pressure washer. Turn the garden hose on.

Pressure wash the exterior of the home from top to bottom until all dirt, cobwebs and flaking paint have been removed. Allow the home to dry for 24 hours.

Scrape away all remaining loose paint with a stiff putty knife. Sand smooth all rough spots with 100 grit sandpaper using oval patterns with your hand.

Caulk all joints, cracks and seams with exterior caulk using a caulking gun. Run the tip of the tube of caulk in the crack and wipe it smooth with your finger. Wipe off excess caulk with a wet painter's rag. Fill all nail holes or gouges in wood using wood putty and a putty knife. Scrape a quarter-size amount of putty out of the container at a time and push it into the nail hole or gouge. Wait 24 hours for the putty to dry and then sand it smooth with 100 grit sandpaper.

Pour primer paint into a 5-gallon bucket and hang a metal paint screen from the inner lip of the bucket.

Dip a paintbrush into the primer to load the bristles. Paint all of the window, door and roof eave trim. Use the brush on all of the areas where a roller can't go.

Slip the nap roller cover over the spindle of the roller frame and screw the extension pole into the handle of the roller frame.

Dip the roller into the paint and paint all of the large surface areas using up and down strokes. Paint each wall of the home from left to right and from top to bottom. Extend the extension pole to reach the higher up areas. Wait 24 hours for the primer coat to dry and then apply two finish coats 24 hours apart.
