Make sure the floor is clean before you start working. Remove all furniture and other items from the porch. Sweep the floor until all debris is removed.

Clean the porch with a sodium percarbonate wood cleaner, follow the manufacturer's instructions. This type of cleaner is safe around humans, animals and plants. If necessary remove old paint or stain with a stripper, following the manufacturer's instructions.

Spray the porch floor with wood brightener, so it adheres better. Wood brightener helps the stain absorb into the wood. Rinse the wood thoroughly. Make sure that all of the chemicals are off of the porch before you let it dry. Let the porch dry for 24 hours before staining.
