Instructions

  1. Remove the Mold

    • 1

Inspect pipes, rain gutters and sprinklers in the area where mold is growing on your siding to determine the source of moisture. Make appropriate repairs.

    • 2

Put on mask and gloves and prepare a solution of water and detergent in a bucket. Trisodium phosphate (TSP) or clothing detergent works well.

    • 3

Scrub the siding with a brush and detergent mixture, being sure not to miss any areas that have mold on them. Allow areas to dry completely.

    • 4

Mix a solution of 1/4 cup of bleach with 1 gallon of water in the bucket. Fill a spray bottle with the bleach solution.

    • 5

Spray the bleach solution on the affected areas and wait 20 minutes; then reapply the solution a second time. Allow the area to dry thoroughly.

    Paint the Wood Siding

    • 6

If needed, sand the area to be painted until it is smooth.

    • 7

Protect windows and other areas you don't want to get paint on with masking tape. Cover the ground with a drop cloth.

    • 8

Open a can of paint and mix it thoroughly with the paint mixing stick. Put in anti-mold additive if the paint did not come with it already mixed in. Once mixed, pour some paint into the paint tray.

    • 9

Load up your brush or roller with some paint, making sure to get rid of any excess using the side of the tray.

    • 10

Apply paint with long, smooth, even strokes, always painting in the same direction. Put more paint on your brush or roller as needed and repeat until all of the siding is painted. Use the paint brush for areas that are too small for the roller.

Let the paint dry; then apply a second coat of paint if needed. The siding should be covered with enough paint to make the finish appear opaque.
