How to Use a Driveway Sealer Brush

Sealing a driveway is a wise decision all around. Sealing your driveway not only improves its aesthetic appearance, but it also protects it from damage caused by the elements and from oil and gasoline stains -- generally increasing the life of your pavement. After washing and filling in any driveway cracks, apply sealer with a standard 18-inch sealer brush. Using the appropriate technique with your sealer brush will ensure an easier process and a superior application.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand at the top of the driveway facing your house. Stir the sealer with a stick to create an even consistency. Step 3 or 4 feet back and pour a large puddle of sealer in front of you.

    • 2

Push your 18-inch sealer brush into the puddle, and create a curving pattern back and forth, covering both sides of the driveway. Brush out denser sections of the puddle onto uncovered sections of the driveway, spreading out the sealer in this same arching pattern.

    • 3

Run the applicator brush two or three times over the same area to make sure the sealer penetrates holes and cracks in the driveway. Once you cover the section in front of you well, step 3 feet back and pour another puddle of sealer in front of you and repeat, covering the driveway with your applicator brush and making an arching pattern. Repeat this process until you cover the entire driveway.

Walk around your driveway, smoothing out bumps or thicker parts of sealer with your brush. The finished application should look smooth and uniform.
