Scuff Marks on a Porcelain Sink

Black scuff marks can mar the look of your porcelain sink. You cannot use abrasive cleaning tools or cleaning solutions because they will scratch the porcelain sink. Remove scuff marks with a non-abrasive or mildly abrasive cleaning solution and work until the scuff marks are gone.
  1. Paper Towels

    • Vigorously rubbing the scuff mark with paper towels will sometimes work to remove it. Use heavy pressure and rub back and forth over the mark until it is gone. This process will not damage the porcelain and will remove light stains that haven't been on the porcelain for very long. It may not work to remove tough scuff marks.

    Eraser

    • Erasers are capable of removing the scuff marks without any potential damage to the porcelain sink. To use it, dry the porcelain sink completely with a clean cloth and let it air dry for several hours. Rub the eraser over the scuff marks until they are gone. Use a white eraser so that the eraser marks don't stand out against the white porcelain. Rinse the sink with clear water when you are finished.

    Scouring Powder

    • Scouring powder is a powder that you can use to remove scuff marks from your porcelain sink. When you mix the scouring powder with water, you form a mild abrasive that will remove the scuff mark without damaging the porcelain. To use it, add just enough water to a quantity of scouring powder to make a thick paste. Rub it over the scuff mark until it is gone. Rinse the area with water.

    Mineral Spirits

    • Mineral oil can remove scuff marks by dissolving the scuff mark. This is one of the most caustic option, so only use it if you've exhausted the other options without result. To use it, soak a clean cloth in mineral spirits and rub it over the porcelain. Rinse the porcelain with water once the scuff mark is gone.
