How to Replace Countertop Laminate With Preformed Laminate

Laminate is an inexpensive and tough countertop material. Over time, however, it can begin showing its wear and can easily become stained, scratched and even peel back in humid places. Update your kitchen by installing new preformed countertops.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the depth of your countertops. This is the measurement from the front of the countertop to the back wall. If your countertop is within 1/4 inch of 24 3/4 inches, you can use a standard manufacture countertop. For anything else, you'll need to pre-order the countertops.

    • 2

Remove the sink and any other fixtures that are resting on the old countertops. Many fixtures are screwed into place and can be lifted out once the screws are removed.

    • 3

Unscrew the old countertops and remove them from the cabinets. If necessary, take the countertops out in pieces with a reciprocating saw.

    • 4

Position the new countertop over your cabinets, making sure to slide the miter into the hole in the drywall.

    • 5

      Screw in the new countertop.

    • 6

Reinstall the sink and other fixtures.
