How to Grind a Profile Knife

A Gerber Profile knife features a non-slip rubber handle for a sure grip and a high carbon steel titanium-coated fine edge blade. The Gerber Profile is a folding knife, similar to a pocket knife, that is designed for many different household and outdoor applications. The length of the blade is 3.5 inches, and like any other blade, it can dull over time. Instead of replacing your knife if it becomes dull, you can grind the blade to sharpen it.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the knife and determine the shape to which you want to grind your knife. Look where it is the most dull and concentrate on those areas.

    • 2

Set up a grind wheel on a flat and even surface. Verify that it is steady in place and flip the switch to turn the grinding wheel on. Put on safety goggles and gloves for added protection when you are working with a grinding wheel.

    • 3

Cover the knife in water. This will prevent it from sparking or overheating when you are grinding it. Grip the handle of the knife in one hand and the tip in another. Run the knife along the bottom of the grinding wheel.

    • 4

Move it around and do not keep it in one location too long or it might burn up. Turn it over and move it from side to side until the desired shape begins to form. Keep the blade at a slight angle at all times and continue grinding until the desired shape of the blade has been achieved.

    • 5

Turn off the grind wheel and do not touch the blade of the knife right away, because it will be extremely hot.
