How to Fix Laminated Cabinets That Are Peeling Off

Laminate cabinets are wood or particle board cabinets that are covered in a layer of clear plastic that encases a piece of decorative paper. Laminate often mimics the pattern of wood grain. Over time, the adhesive backing on the laminate may loosen and the laminate will begin to peel off the cabinet surface. You can easily fix this problem with waterproof adhesive, which prevents you having to refinish the entire cabinet surface.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Scoop some waterproof adhesive onto the corner of a putty knife. Use the putty knife to spread the adhesive between the laminate and the cabinet in an even layer. Put the adhesive anywhere the laminate is peeling off the cabinet surface.

    • 2

Press the laminate into the adhesive so it lies flat on the cabinet surface. Tape the laminate into place with masking tape. Let the adhesive dry for 24 hours.

    • 3

Remove the masking tape. Cut off any dried adhesive that squeezed out from under the laminate with a razor blade. Wipe the laminate surface with a damp cloth and let it air dry.
