How to Fix a Kitchen Drawer Slide That Does Not Close All the Way

Pull out and raise the drawer at an angle to remove it from the kitchen cabinet. Empty the drawer.

Look into the drawer cavity with a flashlight to determine if some object is blocking the back of the cabinet. For example, a soup ladle in the lower drawer that protrudes into the glide path of the upper drawer will prevent it from closing all the way. Remove any obstacles and replace the drawer to test its operation. If it still will not close, continue troubleshooting.

Remove the drawer from the cabinet again to inspect the metal slide on each side for damage. If the slide is bent or the channels are crimped anywhere along the length of the slide, it may not close all the way.

Repair minor damage to the slide by bending the metal gently with a pair of pliers.

Wiggle each slide with your fingertips. If a slide is loose, tighten it to the drawer with a screwdriver. Check the two slides inside the cabinet with a flashlight and tighten them as well, if necessary. The two slides in the cabinet connect with the slides on the sides of the drawer.

Spray a shot of lubricant along the channels for the left and right slides on the drawer then reinsert the drawer into the cabinet.
