How to Remove Drywall Mud on Wooden Floors

Whether you're just making a few repairs or replastering an entire wall, you'll likely end up with a few splatters of drywall mud on the floor. Drywall mud dries hard and leaves a lot of dust, but it's not difficult to clean up. The main thing to remember is to treat the wood floor kindly so you don't damage the finish or gouge the wood. Place a drop cloth on the floor before you begin working to minimize spills.

Instructions

    • 1

Allow the drywall mud to harden. Step on large clumps with heavy shoes to pulverize them. Sweep up the debris and discard.

    • 2

Scrape small, flat adhesions with a plastic putty knife, taking care not to gouge the wood. Vacuum the debris with a shop vac to remove the fine particles of dust that lodge into crevices and crannies.

    • 3

Wipe the whole area with a clean, damp cloth once the dust is removed. Do not use solvents or harsh cleaners on the floor, which can damage the finish.
