Instructions

  1. Laminate

    • 1

Scrub the stain with a rag and warm, soapy water to remove surface discoloration. Wipe with a dry cloth to remove the soap residue.

    • 2

Spread white toothpaste onto the spot, using your fingers to rub it in. Avoid using gel or abrasive toothpaste.

    • 3

Scrub the spot with a toothbrush for a few minutes to remove the burn stain. Clean the area with a damp rag to remove the residue.

    • 4

Spread a soft scrub cleanser onto the spot if any of the burn mark remains. Rub it in and wait about 15 minutes.

    • 5

Scrub the spot with the toothbrush until the mark has lifted. Wipe with a damp cloth to remove the residue.

    Stone or Solid-Surface

    • 6

Clean the area with a cleanser specifically designed for stone or the type of solid surface on your counter. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for using the cleanser.

    • 7

Rub fine-grit sandpaper gently over the spot, using small, circular motions. Sand just enough to remove the burn mark. Avoid sanding anywhere outside the burn stain.

    • 8

Clean the area again with cleanser. Apply a stone polish to restore the original appearance to that part of the countertop.

    Porcelain

    • 9

Wipe the spot with a rag and warm, soapy water to remove discoloration from the surface. Dry the spot with a dry rag.

    • 10

Mix 3 parts baking soda and 1 part water in a bowl to make a paste. Spread the paste over the burn mark, using your fingers to rub it in gently. Let the paste sit for five minutes.

    • 11

Scrub the spot gently with a toothbrush until the burn mark disappears. Avoid scrubbing too hard; baking soda is slightly abrasive and may damage the finish.

    • 12

Wipe the affected area with a damp rag to remove the residue.
