How to Change the Color of a Sink

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the sink as you normally would. Remove any lingering rust or soap scum from the sink with a rust and soap scum cleaner, and scrub brush. Rinse the sink clean with cool water and dry with a towel.

    • 2

Remove the caulking around the sink by gently scraping it off with a paint scrapper. Discard the old caulking in a garbage can.

    • 3

Repair any chips or cracks in the sink. Use a sink repair kit to fix the damage. Follow all directions included in the repair kit.

    • 4

Protect the faucet fixtures by covering with masking tape. Cover the surrounding area with a drop cloth. Cover the drain with masking tape. Remove excess masking tape from around the drain with a utility knife.

    • 5

Dampen a cloth with acetone. Wipe the entire sink -- both inside and out -- with the acetone. Let the acetone dry on the sink.

    • 6

Hold the bonding agent can 6-inches from the sink. Apply the bonding agent to the sink in a steady sweeping motion. Start at the sink and work your way outward. Move from left to right while overlapping the strokes.

    • 7

Continue applying a light coat of the bonding agent until you have covered the entire sink. Wait for 5 to 15 minutes before continuing.

    • 8

Hold the refinisher paint coating 6-inches above the sink. Apply the paint coating in short strokes, starting at the drain and working outward.

    • 9

Apply three coats of the refinisher paint coating to the sink. Wait 5 minutes between each coat before applying the next one. Let the sink dry for 48 hours before using.
