How to Remove Moisture From Underneath Vinyl Flooring

Moisture under a vinyl floor can be caused by moisture coming up through the cement slab that the floor is on top of or from a leak in a pipe. If you have a moisture problem under your vinyl floor, the floor probably wasn't sealed properly to begin with. In order to dry out the floor under the vinyl you'll need to take a few steps, including removing the vinyl cover.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift up the vinyl flooring and roll it up to reveal the wet floor beneath it.

    • 2

Mop the floor with a dry mop to soak up moisture from the floor, if it's concrete. Wring the mop when it's full of water. Keep mopping the floor until you get no more water in the mop.

    • 3

Set up a fan to blow on the floor continuously until it's dry.

    • 4

Place a dehumidifier in the room with the floor to rid the floor of moisture.

    • 5

Replace the vinyl flooring when the floor is totally dry to the touch. Seal the floor along all the edges of the wall with a watertight sealant.
