Solid-surface countertops are durable but not heatproof. Made of alumina trihydrate and modified polyester with acrylic or resin, the surface of these countertops can easily become burned by a cigarette, hot pan, hot hair styling tool or any other source of extreme heat. If you find a burn mark on your solid-surface countertop, don't think that you have to just accept it as part of the surface. You can remove the burn mark without compromising the countertop using the right technique.

Sand over the burn mark with fine-grit sandpaper. Rub the sandpaper lightly back and forth over the spot just until the stain is gone. Avoid sanding anywhere outside of the stain as much as possible.
