How to Restore a Scratched Cultured-Marble Sink

Cultured-marble sinks provide the look of natural marble without the extra cost and hassle. Cultured marble is a made up of ground marble and other natural stones, mixed and coated with resins and polymers. Cultured-marble sinks are susceptible to scratches and cracks, but it's possible to fix minor to moderate scratches at home. If the scratches are deeper than the outer gel-coat, the home polishing process may not work and you will need to call a professional.

Things You'll Need

  • Automotive finishing compound
  • Soft cloths
  • High-speed buffer
  • Wool buffing pad
  • Sandpaper, 800-grit
  • Gel-coat polishing wax

Instructions

      Apply an even layer of automotive finishing compound to the sink with a dry cloth.

      Rub the scratched sink in small, circular motions with the cloth. Allow the compound to dry to a haze.

      Fit a high-speed buffer with a soft wool pad, then buff the cultured-marble sink to a shine.

      Apply a thin, even layer of finishing compound to the scratched sink with a soft cloth if scratches remain.

      Dampen a piece of 800-grit sandpaper with water and polish away any scratches by hand. Rub across the scratches in small, circular motions.

      Rinse the cultured-marble sink with water and wipe it dry with a cloth.

      Apply a thin, even layer of finishing compound to the cultured marble sink. Allow it to dry to a haze, then polish the sink with the high-speed buffer fitted with a wool pad.

      Apply a thin layer of gel-coat polishing wax to the cultured-marble sink. Allow it to dry to a haze before buffing it away with a soft cloth.
